| FirstRAIDTM and FirstRAID DXRTM
Introducing FirstRAIDTM and FirstRAID DXRTM - standalone RAID 5 redundant backup solutions with removable media capability for off-site backup storage.
Our 4 Bay FirstRAID systems directly attaches to your fileserver using a single, industry standard eSATA or USB2.0 connection (DXR only). You can connect it to any eSATA Host Bus adapter that is multi-drive capable. The eSATA port does not need RAID functionality because our internal "in-line" controllers handles the RAID.
- Duplicate your backup automatically. FirstRAID's top 3 drives are configured as a RAID 5 array and the 4th drive as a stand-alone drive to "backup the backup". Use the RAID volume for your nearline back-up with automatic redundant protection. Then copy the RAID volume to the bottom volume and remove for off-site disaster recovery and storage. For example, use three 250GB SATA drives to form a fully redundant 500GB RAID 5 array. *Now, install a 500GB SATA drive in slot four and configure your backup software to do nightly backups to the RAID and also to duplicate that backup to the stand alone drive. Or, get the FirstRAID DXR and let it make the off-site backup copy automatically, as long as the array is the same exact size or smaller than standalone, We call this the 3Plus1 configuration. The result? Two copies of your critical data, one of which will survive a single drive failure, the other can be pulled out in the morning and transported off-site.
*For example purpose. The actual combination of 250GB drives in the array and a 500GB in the removable bay will function as JBOD with the host doing the imaging but doesn't function with the DXR (RAID 1) feature because the 500GB drive is a few bytes smaller than the array. In order for the DXR imaging to work, the removable drive must be the same size or larger. So, a 750GB drive would be fine although roughly 250GB of the drive would go unused.

- No RAID software. Because of its unique in-line controller, there is no software, drivers or any additional configuration required. Plug the FirstRAID into a multi-drive capable eSATA controller and you're ready to go! Like our other popular High-Rely products, you can use FirstRAID with most backup software so no training is necessary.
- No Administration. Like our other High-Rely products, FirstRAID is directly attached so it inherits the security properties of the server or workstation it is attached to. Unlike NAS units which are their own servers and often require seperate configuration and administration.
- FAST. Redundant RAID 5 backup can write up to 120 Giga Bytes per Hour. Performance will vary depending on many factors within your configuration.
- Flexible. The FirstRAID can also be configured for RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10 using up to 4 hot-swap removable drives. Also, because the FirstRAID's media carriers are compatible with High-Rely product family, you may use media interchangably with our other High-Rely products.
