RAIDPacs are the largest hot-pluggable backup media in the world. They integrate 3 SATA hard drives with a RAID 0/5 hardware controller making a completely self contained RAID system complete with cooling that can be hot-plugged from any RAIDFrame(R) chassis. RAIDPacs maybe set for either RAID 0 (stripping) operation or RAID 5 (redundant stripped, allowing a drive to fail and still operate). In RAID 0 the capacity of all three drives is added together for the final capacity. In RAID 5, two of the hard drive's capacities are added together for the final capacity.
In RAID 5, when a drive fails, the RAIDPac can be removed and have a like size or larger drive installed where the failed drive was, and when reinserted into a RAIDFrame, the system will automatically rebuild back to a fault tollarant level.
In RAID 0, if a drive fails, all data will be lost. The failed drive can be replaced and the pack reinitialized for new operation.
