PDF brochure

The Backup NAS 301 is a full-featured, customizable backup server. It ships with Windows Storage server 2008. By adding your own backup and virtualization software, you get complete control of your backup environment. The BNAS may be used as a backup target, rapid on-site restore, or emergency server that can spin up virtual machine images.

The BNAS comes in a compact 2U form factor. The BNAS comes equipped with a receiver for standard High-Rely media, making it easy to take backups of site.

The BNAS removable drive automatically produces a mirrored copy of the internal data drive, providing touch-less backup.

The BNAS 301 is a BDR (Backup & Disaster Recovery) device running Windows Storage Server with a hot swap backup drive. Add your own virtualization and Backup software to complete the solution.

Do you need to configure your own Backup Appliance? The Backup Network Attached Storage (BNAS) 301 series is based on Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008R2 and allows you to choose your own backup and virtualization software. Proprietary backup solutions lock you into their software, hard drive size, off-site vault location, and support. The BNAS 301 provides flexibility for you to configure your favorite backup software and even allows plugging in external eSATA and USB 3 drives for more backup space. 2U Configurable rack mount backup appliance with optional mirrored removable drive, 3.1 Ghz Intel i3 processor, 8GB RAM, USB3, eSATA ports, and Dual Gigabit Ethernet.

Key differentiators of the 301 series Backup Network Attached Storage (BNAS):

  • Based on a Windows Server OS. This Backup Appliance runs Windows 2008R2 storage server, which allows joining a domain and running any Windows backup software.
  • Integrated removable mirrored drive. Unlike any other NAS, the 301x series includes an integrated hot swap drive tray and mirror board that fully protects a copy of main data drive and allows multiple archives of data. Protects against corruption of main data store.

Other Key features of the BNAS 301:

  • Expandable. ESATA or USB3 ports on back allow the rest of the High-Rely products to plug in.
  • Software Flexibility. You choose and license your backup and virtualization software.
  • Emergency Server. A powerful 64 bit Intel i3 processor running Windows storage server 2008 to host one or more “Virtual machines” during a disaster. Spin backup images up as VMs quickly and easily (requires third party backup and VM software). Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports allow one port to be dedicated to backup connectivity and one to be used for the virtual server(s).
  • High performance. Capable of backup throughputs of almost 3 times the speed of consumer grade NAS appliances due to more robust processor.
  • Faster Restore. Network down emergency? Gig-E allows a fast restore, but eSATA & USB3 are even faster when every second counts. You can get the convenience of a fast NAS along with the option to quickly pull the High-Rely classic tray and plug it into our slimline removable drive. Connect the slimline to your server via USB3 or eSATA to restore at 400Gigabytes per hour (versus half that restore speed via Gig-E).
  • iSCSI support. Includes Microsoft iSCSI target software license
  • Serviceability. Uses standard parts in critical areas such as motherboard and a standard ATX power supply.
  • Rack Mount. 2U form factor to minimize server room real estate.

The BNAS 301 boots from a 500GB drive and provides separate 2TB or 3TB drive(s) for your backup data. Depending on the configuration, a removable drive driven by our hardware based mirroring provides the ability to swap media and automatically create extra copies of data. This provides as many point-in-time or archival drives as are required. Mirroring occurs at approximately 100Gigabytes per hour so allow time for resynch when swapping drives. Since the mirrored removable drive is managed in hardware, the backup software and operating system remain unaware of the extra drive copies. The built-in removable drive also allows easy “seeding” of the off-site location. A seed is used when the data set is so large it would take weeks or months to get a full backup off site over the Internet connection. Since the removable drive trays can be plugged into a simple $225 eSATA or USB3 connected High-Rely slimline, reading the seed drive at the data center is low cost and easy.
