This Backup NAS (BNAS) is Windows based ”roll your own” Backup & Disaster Recovery appliance (BDR) with a removable drive. This Windows BDR allows you to install backup and virtualization software of your choice. Using Windows Storage server 2008 R2 and dual Gigabit ethernet cards, BNAS models are available in several configurations (i3-i7 cpus, 8-16GB RAM, 2-3TB of internal storage).
The 2U rackmount BNAS comes equipped with a built-in receiver for High-Rely classic removable drive trays plus special hardware for mirroring the internal drive to the removable drive, which allows for rotation and automatic replication of your backup data. It takes less than 1/2 day for the BNAS to automatically mirror the internal drive after a media swap. This means the customer can choose to manage and transport data off-site with no monthly fees. Or….add your favorite replication software to create a 3rd data copy in the cloud (ask us about recommended backup, virtualization, & off-site cloud vendors for a complete solution).
The BNAS BDRs allow for rapid restore over the LAN. If you prefer even faster restores, you can slide the removable drive into an optional slimline attached directly to your server (using USB3 or eSATA). Alternatively, use it as an emergency server to spin up your backup images in place using free Oracle virtualbox , Microsoft Hyper-V (included in some models) or similar virtualization software. Imaging products like ShadowProtect, Acronis True Image and Symantec Backup Exec work well with the BNAS platform.
The BNAS 301 is a BDR (Backup & Disaster Recovery) device running Windows Storage Server with a hot swap backup drive. Add your own virtualization, Backup, and Replication software to complete the solution.

Do you need to configure your own Backup Appliance? The Backup Network Attached Storage (BNAS) 301 series is based on Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2008R2 and allows you to choose your own backup and virtualization software. Proprietary backup solutions lock you into their software, hard drive size, off-site vault location, and support. The BNAS 301 provides flexibility for you to configure your favorite backup software and even allows plugging in external eSATA and USB 3 drives for more backup space. 2U Configurable rack mount backup appliance with optional mirrored removable drive, 3.1 Ghz Intel i3 processor, 8GB RAM, USB3, eSATA ports, and Dual Gigabit Ethernet. Optionally upgrade to an i7, more RAM, and faster ethernet ports.

Other Key features of the BNAS 301:
The BNAS 301 boots from a 500GB drive and provides separate 2TB or 3TB drive(s) for your backup data. Depending on the configuration, a removable drive driven by our hardware based mirroring provides the ability to swap media and automatically create extra copies of data. This provides as many point-in-time or archival drives as are required. Mirroring occurs at approximately 100Gigabytes per hour so allow time for resynch when swapping drives. Since the mirrored removable drive is managed in hardware, the backup software and operating system remain unaware of the extra drive copies. The built-in removable drive also allows easy “seeding” of the off-site location. A seed is used when the data set is so large it would take weeks or months to get a full backup off site over the Internet connection. Since the removable drive trays can be plugged into a simple $225 eSATA or USB3 connected High-Rely slimline, reading the seed drive at the data center is low cost and easy.
