The RAIDFrame system uses removable cartridges called RAIDPacs. This 2 Bay unit houses two removable cartridges that can be swapped and transported as needed (See the carrying case). Each cartridge contains three drives and a RAID controller allowing them to store more data than a traditional hard drive (up to 12TB each). Yet they appear to the host as a single volume because the RAID (0/5) controller is integrated inside (and is transported as part of the removable cartridge). This provides larger volume sizes and better data integrity than a single drive. RAIDPacs in RAID5 mode can sustain the loss of a single hard drive and still keep your data safe.
The 2 bay RAIDFrame also allows mirroring of the RAIDPacs, which means the host system would see only one volume. We call this AMT, which stands for “Automatic Mirroring Technology“. AMT can provide better hardware and software compatibility because the host does not need to see drive swaps. The AMT technology allows continuous data protection, and even provides for softwareless backup when one RAIDPac is used as primary nearline storage. Alternatively, the mirroring feature can be turned off, allowing each RAIDPacs to be used as an independent volume.
In the event of drive failure, the RAIDPac will beep and flash a light signalling which drive has failed. If needed, individual drives can be swapped out with power. Just remove the front panel of the RAIDPac. RAIDPacs are also self contained. For emergency field recovery they can work stand-alone (outside the RAIDFrame) because they have power and USB/eSATA connectors on the back.

The RAIDFrame AMT is a 2 Bay direct attached backup solution with removable RAID 5 media (RAIDPacs) and an integrated mirroring controller. Mirroring is controlled using front panel display and buttons.

The RAIDFrame AMT has two removable RAIDPac bays. RAID “51″ technology is being used, which refers to simultaneous RAID5 and RAID1. The two RAIDPacs are mirrored, providing additional data redundancy. Installing a new RAIDPac automatically initiates a re-mirror. Mirroring can be turned on/off so the two RAIDpacs can be used separately.
RAIDPacs are the largest removable backup media in the world, holding 12TB in RAID0 mode or 8TB in RAID5 mode. Each removable RaidPac houses 3 SATA hard drives and a RAID5 Controller that allows it to sustain single drive failures without data loss.
Since the RAID5 controller is integrated into the hardware of the RAIDPac, the removable media and each 3 drive RAIDPac shows up to the host as a single hard drive with no drivers or installation required. (Similar to plugging in a USB drive).
This system connects via a single eSATA cable providing a faster backup than tape, USB, or Ethernet connected devices. Use your choice of backup or imaging software to backup your server(s) to the unit. Keep one copy on-site and remove the other RAIDPac as needed.
RAIDPacs have an emergency Molex and USB3 connector on them that allows the data to be accessed in the field – even in the absence of the RAIDFrame.
The RAIDFrame systems are the ultimate power house of Data Backup. With their tremendous capacity, speed and portability, nothing will stop you from retrieving your valuable data fast.
