For fast backup our DAS (Direct Attached Storage) systems outpeform most NAS devices and use eSATA, USB3, or on some products both.  USB3 device ports are backwards compatible with USB 2 ports so if the host doesn’t have USB3 or there are compatibility issues you can plug into one of those.  Our NAS (Network Attached Storage) systems are typically Gigabit Ethernet.
