NetSwap Family Model NC400 i3

The High-Rely NetSwap 400 computer backup NAS system is an ideal sized 2U rack-mounted NetSwap offering four Removable Drive bays for maximum flexibility and capacity in a 2U size unit. Designed as a purpose-built alternative to consumer rack-mounted NAS devices, our specialized system allows administrators to save backups onto four hot-swapped 3.5″ drives that are fully enclosed in aluminum trays. We call these trays High-Rely Classic media. The Removable Drives can be accessed through Windows sharing, NFS sharing, or iSCSI via Gigabit Ethernet. The unit provides hardware-based AES-256 encryption for your data security. Our DeltaSync and replication features provide additional redundancy, and syncing, to local Removable Drives, cloud, or other remote NetSwap destinations.

The NetSwap 400 is a backup NAS with up to four removable drives. Pairs of removable drives can mirror to one another, or they can appear as separate drives. They can also be configured into a RAID 0, 5, 6, or 10 RAIDed volumes (firmware version 2.14 and higher).

  • The unit is an Ethernet attached backup system.

    Configure from any Browser!

  • Designed with support for removable hard drives.
  • The NetSwap 400 system has fully enclosed removable drives for frequent media swaps.
  • Boots from an easily accessible, front panel mounted SSD.
  • It is able to create multiple transportable copies of your backup, with removable drives designed for daily swap and transport..

Data retention is very important to us, which is why we built our removable backup drives to protect archived data in a durable tray enclosure. After all, what good is removable storage if it cannot be taken off-site? With the threat of maliciously deleted files and virus infections, natural disasters, such as fire, flood, or theft – removable media becomes a professional necessity. The use of off-line Removable Media is one of the BEST ways to assure data security because if it is not connected, it cannot be hacked, deleted, infected, maliciously encrypted, or downloaded! Our High-Rely NetSwap removable hard drives (media) provide the answer. All High-Rely warranties cover backup devices for one year. Extended dynamic support contracts are available for up to three years, with advance replacement – including shipping costs to and from our factory.

NetSwap Customers:

  • Would like Network Attached Storage (NAS), but need enterprise class hardware and the ability to carry data off-site as needed. They may want to supplement off-site cloud backup, can only afford to off-site part of the data set, or simply do not trust data off-site.
  • May want a mirrored copy of NAS storage created automatically so there are two copies of all backup data. With Automatic Mirroring Technology, a physical backup of your data is as easy as removing a media cartridge when you need it.  No clicking, no scheduling, no waiting.  Simply pull the media, and go.
  • Want built in replication. NAS to NAS replication allows placement of a second box offsite.  Supports block level incremental copies, bandwidth scheduling, bandwidth throttling, and up to five replication targets.  In addition, another appliance data can be sent to an Rsync target, or to popular cloud storage destinations, such as Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, DreamHost DreamCloud, and Dropbox. Note: allow extra space on source hard drive when using snapshots.  More details.
  • Are tired of waiting for large data sets to update over the Internet. SpeedSeed™ technology offers the fastest possible way to practically sync large volumes of data.  SpeedSeed eliminates the time it takes to make copies of data at both the source and destination site.  By making the SpeedSeed the “primary” drive in the mirror set the destination site is up to date in minutes, not hours.
  • Want enough speed to do FULL backups, in case incremental does not work when needed.
  • Want rapid restore. Using Gigabit Ethernet and our iSCSI software, the removable drive out-performs USB 2 and, when optimized, can attain 75% the speed of a locally attached SATA drive.  We recommend dedicating a separate Ethernet card on machine(s) being backed up for best speed.
  • Need local, fast restore, instead of waiting for cloud restore.
  • May need to restore virtual environments from bare metal, which is hard or impossible to do with USB and eSATA since the stripped down hypervisor O.S. may not provide driver support.
  • Have servers that do not support high speed (USB3 or eSATA) storage controllers or have blade servers with no PCI-e slots.
  • Do not have the budget for expensive NAS/SAN solutions.
  • Want security, and is able to join a Windows domain.
  • Like the idea of a U.S. company, with telephone tech support for resellers, and good customer service, along with the ability to purchase a three year advance replace warranty.

NetSwap Products:

All NetSwaps include an easily accessible SSD (exception being the NetSwap 200, which instead has an internal HDD), with its removable backup media, and can automatically mirror the removable drive(s). This automatic mirror technology provides better protection for modern backup software. With a second copy, there are redundant historical copies of data in case corruption creeps into the continuous incremental chain. The NetSwaps include a proprietary hardware board, called the HRIC, which adds audible and visual alerts, on top of standard email notifications, which delivers ultimate stability. Each NetSwap backup system features replication with all High-Rely NetSwap appliances, as well as Rsync targets. In addition, the NetSwap will replicate with popular cloud vendors, such as: Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, DreamHost DreamCloud, and Dropbox.

NetSwaps include auto backup mirroring.

NetSwaps also features:

  • Automatic Mirroring with mirror pools.
  • Scheduled Mirroring for air gap security.
  • Advanced SpeedSeed technology.
  • Drive-to-Drive Replication.
  • DeltaSync – fast syncing on media swaps.
  • NetSwap-to-NetSwap Replication.
  • NetSwap-to-Cloud Replication.
  • Reverse Cloud backup to NAS.
  • And more…

Antiquated tape drives and RDX backup devices are easily replaced by our NetSwap computer backup system. You can also supplement or replace expensive monthly Cloud strategies with a locally-installed NetSwap solution. NetSwap offers CIFS and SMB connections (Windows shares), NFS (Linux, Unix, VMware Virtualization shares), or iSCSI (faster block level drive access). Use any modern web browser to configure any NetSwap, then use any Remote Management and Monitoring tool, such as Labtech, to monitor the unit. Our simple menu driven interface is similar to those used on consumer routers, making it simple to configure the IP address, machine name, and other basic settings. Multiple NetSwaps may be conveniently monitored, and managed.

The removable drive and data drive can be formatted NTFS (Native Windows format), or EXT4, and will plug into our direct attached (USB3 or ESATA) line of storage products. Use your favorite software for backup and/or additional off-site (cloud) management.

  • Simple Bare Metal Virtual Machine Restore. Having a NetSwap unit provides backup storage that can be accessed using Windows Networking, NFS networking, or iSCSI. Hypervisor environments that will not easily recognize USB or eSATA quickly attach via Gigabit ethernet.
  • Interchangeable Media. You can plug your media into any of our products. This gives you unprecedented ability to verify and restore your backups elsewhere.
  • High Capacity. Currently up to 18TB of raw storage per drive (higher if compressed).
  • No Drivers Required. Access the NetSwap via conventional UNC path (Windows Networking), by connecting via iSCSI, or NFS via Gigabit Ethernet connectivity.
  • Free iSCSI and Drive Management Software Available. Our software assists you in safely removing network attached drives, as well as making sure that drive letters stay consistent so that backup jobs run reliably.

Important Note:  In replication environments where files will be open and changing 24×7, the High-Rely “snapshot” feature can be used to track active file changes, providing integrity for the replication offsite.   When using this snapshot feature the worst case scenario would require having twice the space on the sending side of replication job as is required for your full data set.  For example, a very actively changing 1TB data set might require up to a 2TB drive on the sending side of the replication to allow room for the snapshot. While doubling space is overly conservative in most cases, it should be considered in drive size planning.
